STRATEGIC SUPPORT
AUDIT/INSPECTION PROGRAM EVALUATION
- Evaluate effectiveness of engineering, construction, maintenance and operating practices and standards to ensure public and employee safety, operating efficiency, system reliability, and to minimize business risk
- Provide independent audits of facilities or records to ensure compliance with regulations or company standards
- Develop comprehensive quality management programs that include: business process maps, description of process capabilities, assessment of the adequacy of controls, and development of improvement plans
ASSET MANAGEMENT
- Provide strategy and implementation planning/assistance for optimizing the balance between utility asset physical condition (age, appearance, safety), operating performance (reliability and operability), and financial decisions (repair vs. replace)
- Review/develop Substation Condition Based Maintenance program
- Review Arc Flash program documents, including technical design and labeling
- Review Ground Grid Design Program documentation for substations or transmission lines
CONTROL/DISPATCH CENTER OPTIMIZATION
- Review current work processes and technology
- Review current and proposed staffing plans
- Work with leadership to develop optimization plan
STRATEGIC & BUSINESS PLANNING
- Develop/Assess business unit strategic plans, change initiative strategic objectives, or department business plans
- Create an achievable, measurable road map while addressing changing regulations, increasing customer demands and expectations, aging infrastructure, and resource shortages (employees and financial)
ELECTRIC SYSTEM PLANNING
(Capacity, Protection, and Reliability)
- Review existing program and tools
- Assess Smart Grid and Distributed Generation integration capabilities
- Develop utility specific programs (system-wide or area/substation/ circuit specific)
TECHNICAL SERVICES
DATA MANAGEMENT
- Design tools to ensure field data collection is easy and comprehensive
- Perform analysis to identify corrective work assignments and future work planning
- Develop custom tools and equipment inventory protocols
- Design tools to support compliance and management of employee training/certification requirements
- Facilitate knowledge transfer between workers during times of extreme attrition or workforce expansion
STANDARDS DEVELOPMENT
(Design, Construction, Operations, and Maintenance)
- Review and update existing company guidance documents to comply with regulatory and industry standard requirements
- Develop new guidance documents such as standards, procedures, and job aids to ensure compliance with regulatory and industry requirements
- Develop or revise a company’s process for initiating, developing, and updating guidance documents
SMART GRID
- Provide technical support for Battery and Photovoltaic technologies
- Evaluate and develop Smart Meter deployment program
- Provide planning support for high level integration of Distributed Generation
EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS
- Evaluate/update existing plans
- Develop/deliver necessary training programs
- Facilitate and support training exercises
REGULATOR/LITIGATION SUPPORT
- Provide high level technical Utility expertise to support Utility Law Departments in attorney sponsored research of specific technical issues, incident investigation, and rate case preparation (discovery and witness preparation)
- Provide expert witness services and/or support
- Coordinate data and damage analysis
INCIDENT INVESTIGATION & FAILURE ANALYSIS
- Provide high level technical Utility expertise to support investigation, analysis, and reporting
- Coordinate industry research and required testing
ELECTRIC ESTIMATING & MAPPING
- Complete electric design projects using Utility prescribed tools (Underground Subdivision design, Wood Pole replacements, Overhead to Underground conversion projects, etc.)
- Support Utility records and document management processes
